The school in Ostend has a clear and legible layout. The interior spaces are arranged in two rectangular blocks, pulled apart and rotated relative to one another. One volume accommodates two storeys, while the other frees up the ground floor to create outdoor space. The entire complex is founded on piles and is otherwise built in a relatively conventional manner, using columns, load-bearing walls, precast concrete slab floors (predalles), and hollow-core slabs. The space between the two volumes is covered. This canopy, together with the prefabricated façade elements, allows the building to be read as a coherent whole. Large composite I-section beams rest on slender circular concrete columns and support the roof. The beams also cantilever beyond the columns, where they carry the upper prefabricated beam and from which the walkway of the lower level is suspended.
