The concept for a house in Aalst is clear and follows the logic of its spatial organization. Private zones are accommodated within a lifted, closed beam volume, which rests on and cantilevers over four transverse concrete slabs. A fifth slab ensures lateral stability. To enable the cantilevers and keep the structure as lightweight as possible, the beam volume is constructed as a steel truss structure, clad in a brick veneer and infilled with a timber framework. The ground floor, which houses the living areas, contrasts with the closed beam volume. It is light and open, oriented towards the beautiful surrounding landscape.
