Bio-Planet had already realized several supermarkets within existing buildings; however, for this pilot project, the challenge was to design a newly built supermarket in an ecologically responsible manner. For the structural system, timber truss girders were selected, supported by central timber columns and peripheral concrete columns. The latter are designed to resist wind loads. All walls are likewise constructed using prefabricated timber elements.
